As part of the national strategy for the development of the tourism sector “Tourism 2022”, the Ministry of the Economy launched in March 2018 a call for projects for the “Tourism Innovation Award 2018”, which was aimed at all Luxembourg SMEs implementing a particularly innovative tourism project.

Composed of representatives from the Ministry of the Economy, Luxinnovation, Luxembourg for Tourism, the Regional Tourism Offices, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Trades, the “Tourism Innovation Award” jury selected the winning projects in two categories, each with a prize of 15,000 euros.

Category “Circular Economy and Sustainable Tourism”: Ramborn Cider Haff

In the category “Circular Economy and Sustainable Tourism”, the winner is Ramborn SA with its project “Ramborn Cider Haff”, which was awarded for its exemplary character in the field of circular economy. Ramborn has succeeded in creating an innovative tourism product that reaches far beyond national borders. It offers extraordinary added value for Luxembourg by combining active tourism, sustainable development, craftsmanship and regional products.

Category “Smart Tourism”: Spoticle

In the “Smart Tourism” category, the winner is the company Spoticle SARL with the application “Spoticle – Location recommendations for everyone”. This application provides an innovative solution that allows tourism companies to easily access digitalization. This tool is easy to use, quickly operational and requires little financial investment. In this sense, it represents a real added value for the tourism sector, has an interesting economic potential and offers multiple fields of application.

“Audience Award”: Spillplaz.lu

In addition to the two prizes awarded by the jury, the “Tourism Innovation Award 2018” is complemented by an “Audience Award” also endowed with a prize of 15,000 euros. The public chose their favorite project from among the 32 entries submitted for the competition. The winner is the Spillplaz.lu project of the company Bazar. This website and the corresponding mobile application collect, geolocate and make available to users information concerning all children’s playgrounds in the Grand Duchy. This is an exceptional added value for families, whether they are residents or visiting Luxembourg.

Secretary of State of the Economy Francine Closener stated: “The Tourism Innovation Award 2018 allows us to promote know-how and innovation among companies active in the tourism sector, directly or indirectly, and thus stimulate creativity and the development of original projects. It is also a way to encourage new partnerships and open the sector to new trends. Together with our colleagues from Luxinnovation, Luxembourg for Tourism, the Regional Tourism Offices and the professional chambers, we want to encourage the sector’s stakeholders to adopt a strategy based on innovation, in order to strengthen their competitiveness and the attractiveness of Luxembourg as a sustainable and quality tourist destination.”
